HOME AND AWAY: How to Fly a Lovely Sierra Leone Flag for Independence Political parties have their variances in ideology in Africa and other continents, and I have experienced an untouchable base line political dispensation for all the countries I had travelled, both developed and developing nations, and United Kingdom and the Gambia as cases in point. Let us the take the case of the Gambia, regardless of the autocratic style of governance, Gambia still remain to ensure that there is reward of national efforts and the poor and vulnerable are of utmost concern and care. Gambia is a case in point where the elites and non-elites take the poor and vulnerable to a high esteem, and taking frantic strives at private and public level to ensure that they are of priority, let us forget the autocratic style of Jammeh Leadership. I see this as the same for the United Kingdom. Gambia is a country where pets and insane are taking to higher esteem, and not to talk about service providers to the nation. This is not the case the case in Sierra Leone. Teachers and those in higher offices in Sierra Leone , if not for case of the high level of corruption, will never afford to have a self-contain house (two rooms, parlour and toilet) like the one I/we enjoyed in the Gambia as teachers. No wonder why some in the Gambia that never enjoyed such in Sierra Leone are obsessed with the opportunities they experienced or experiencing in the Gambia. You can’t blame them as nations outside are looking at it as a priority. This is the same in United Kingdom, as the government here is placing priority on ensuring that the poor and vulnerable members of society have three meals to eat per day. There are food banks and pool of opportunities in developed nations to ensure that the poor and vulnerable members of society can have something to live on every day. My concern and the global concern for Sierra Leone are to ensure that the base-line concern is met. When I was a teacher in the Gambia, I lived a lovely life and can afford a crate of Guinness per day and ensure that friends around me could have a good time on their visitations. This is not the case for Sierra Leone where Teachers and a large proportion not striking the political drums cannot afford a decent housing, reasonable electricity supply, having added academic value, required calories per day to build their immune system for Ebola threats and all odds surrounding them. Politics come and go, but what is required is the type of governance, like the model in United Kingdom, that has the base-line sound welfare dispensation for its people. The Type of base-line that is unwavering, regardless of any political party that comes-up. As a Teacher in the Gambia, I can afford having a self contain house, required calories to eat per day, meet entertainment needs and something to save to meet to unexpected shocks. This is the type of Sierra Leone we looking forward to based on its endowment. If a groundnut and tax oriented nation like the Gambia can do it, why not Sierra Leone? I have seen it all out of Sierra Leone and given a candid opinion on the reality. I am raising this awareness to alert the politicians in Sierra Leone that they need to do more to keep to the Jones or global call. The political stalwarts or activists have to be aware that this is not the time for self-centeredness, but the time to stamp or act on the reality of modern times. The rational minded are graving for a better nation and disregarding any detractors towards the move. It is time to decide whether you are with a forward looking nation or a backward nation. It is not about “after you nar you”, but shaping the society in a way where everyone is happy, and this should be evident in all regions. It is imperative that you might bounce back where the entire people are happy with your lovely national dispensation.
