Hawaiis 2014 legislative session has begun, and we are excited to share with you some of our top priorities along with building HASV: SB2586 Establishes the Developing Opportunities for Veterans’ Education (DOVE) program, a program in state higher education public institutions to assist student veterans in transitioning from combat-to-college. SB2304 Requires the board of regents of the University of Hawaii to waive the nonresident tuition and fee differential for veterans of the United States armed forces, who were honorably discharged. HB158 HD3 Broadens the scope of tuition assistance to Hawaii National Guard members working toward a degree on any campus of the University of Hawaii system with priority given under specified conditions. HB159 HD1 Requires the University of Hawaii to waive all tuition and fees for qualified resident students who are the spouse or child of United States Armed Services and National Guard members who are totally disabled or were killed in action. HB2075 Broadens the scope of tuition assistance to Hawaii National Guard members working toward a post-secondary educational degree with priority given under specified conditions. Appropriates funds.
