Here is a recap of the news segment my daughter and I just witnessed: Split screen reporters in Tel Aviv and one in Gaza. The report from Tel Aviv showed how Israel is under pressure from President to stop the bombing though Hamas broke the cease fire. The images were of the Israeli military shooting back. Report from Gaza focused solely on the victims of bombing; their desperation and the effects of the Israeli bombing. The images were focused on human cost within Gaza. My daughter shouted: why are they showing it like this? as though only those in Gaza are victims here? Why arent they showing the whole truth, mom? This was not an unbiased report by any means. Like Ive said to my daughter, though I am not in favor of bombing anyone/anything at all - when someone who has been consistently bullied strikes back, that does NOT make them the bully. Its called self-defense. Is there a better way? yes. Until we then however, lets not demonize the one defending her right to EXIST and stop those seeking to obliterate her.
