...How does your garden grow? The asparagus in our kitchen garden is getting tall and it looks like the rhubarb has already had its first harvest! As we plant our gardens and plan how we will be preserving our own harvests over the next few months we would like to share some memories of food preservation our guest have shared with us In conjunction with our “Veiled Arts of Victorian Women” exhibit. Canning food has always been a tradition in my family. My great-grandmother, grandmother, mother and I (still in a high chair) would can all the vegetables that were left over in the fall. Pictures show row of bean, tomatoes, apples, tomato sauce, corn, beets and more, lined up next to three smiling ladies and a baby.
