I gather from several media reports, by reading between the lines, that last night Hamas managed to infiltrate Israel once more, and while the two squads of Hamas fighters were eliminated they succeeded on causing havoc and more Israeli military casualties. In addition, more than 80 missiles were fired, including several toward Tel Aviv. This looks to me a replay of the Second Lebanon war of 2006. The IDF had to deploy large amount of forces to defend Israeli territory proper, on the border between Gaza and Israel, since the tunnels reach very close to the settlements on the Gaza periphery. I cannot shake the gut feeling the IDF have been completely surprise by the magnitude, scope and number of those tunnels despite its technical superiority that allow it to observe and listen to everything within the strip. Is the issue lack of data or as I suspect, lack of analysis both on the capabilities and intentions of Hamas and other organizations?. Is the Judge Winograd ready for its new assignment? This is looking like more and more another Bint Jebail operation... The number of Palestinian KIA crossed 500 last night.
