I have not been on FB much this month, in part due to catching this viral bug twice, that has been going around, but also because I had a lot of Christmas stuff to do and did not want to get distracted. It has been a strange, but not unwelcome experience, as I was able to get my flat painted with the help of my dear friend Caroline and Ursula, chucked out a whole lot of crap, recovered space I never knew I had. It’s feeling very homely and welcoming right now, which is a good feeling. Cafes have at this time of the year, a special ambience, you can see it in the faces of the people as they discuss with friends/loved ones, their plans for December 25th. I had to pass through Kings X station recently, and I saw all of those people making a start to/just ending their journeys, all soft and shiny with their eager stories. Later on I listened to “An American Christmas” sung by the Boston Camerata. Magical for me in a non-religious/spiritual way, delightful, profound aesthetic I was/am struck though as to how lucky I am in having somewhere warm, and clean to sleep, watch TV, read, etc. I have a full fridge and cupboard, of food (the fodder has to last for January), the Christmas decorations are hanging up, and last night the fairy lights were twinkling (there have been times, when despite working full time, I’ve had none of those things, and other times when not working, when I’ve had none of those things). I know full well, how easy it is to get pulled down and under no matter how much you struggle. I’m taking a break from FB over the next few days; call it a Christmas truce if you will.
