I have received a lot of criticism from people who oppose my stand concerning ISIS--- the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria. Essentially what is being said is ISIS is so bad and terrible that it leaves the United States and its allies no choice but to act--- meaning military intervention. And then I get the question: What do you recommend? This line of thinking is used to justify imperialism--- although most of those people supporting the US taking action against ISIS would not admit to being supporters of imperialism or even that attacking ISIS is an act of imperialist aggression and war. And ignores all the facts. What is the central fact here? The central fact is that the United States and its imperialist allies--- mainly Great Britain, France, Canada and Israel--- have collaborated in one way or another (mostly through anti-democratic repression, violence and wars) to undermine the progressive forces led by the left who either came to power or were on the verge of coming to power. This left a huge hole, or vacuum, in these countries which these imperialist then sought to fill with the most right-wing leaders and outfits... of which ISIS is but one of the United States creations. The only solution to this mess will be found into progressive forces in these countries rebuilding their organizations and influence. This can, and will, happen quicker than most people think once the hand of imperialism is removed from these countries and this region of the world. Upon orders, and with support from the United States, Syrian and Iraqi Communists have been systematically murdered and subjected to the worst and most gruesome kinds of torture in these countries. The United States could have stopped Hitler in his tracks had Franklin Roosevelt--- and every single Democrat--- fully armed and supported the anti-fascist resistance in Francos Spain. Instead, Roosevelt and the Democrats along with enthusiastic Republicans CHOSE to embargo arms being shipped to the anti-fascists because they were led by Communists. U.S. big business continued to build up Hitler just as U.S. big business interests have built up the most reactionary forces in Syria and Iraq. Do you think ISIS is bad? You havent seen anything yet. Just wait until the real forces the United States and its imperialist allies want to bring in to replace ISIS. By supporting U.S. imperialism instead of supporting the anti-imperialists and anti-fascists in Iraq and Syria the situation can only continue to go from bad to worse. It is just like supporting the lesser evil who always turns out to be the most evil in U.S. politics--- from Bush to Obama... from bad to worse. And the next Wall Street backed president will be even worse than Obama even if he/she is portrayed to be the lesser of two evils. At some point, a solid anti-imperialist way of thinking needs to take hold in this country if we want to see real change. Supporting the evil deeds (Obamas plan) of imperialism over the evil that imperialism has spun is no solution to these problems in the Middle East (or anyplace else).
