I prepared a roast today in the crock pot. It smelled so good - TopicsExpress

I prepared a roast today in the crock pot. It smelled so good cooking all day long. Then we ate and were finished in about 15 quick minutes. It reminded me of how my Grandmothers used to literally cook for DAYS to prepare for holiday meals. Making everything from scratch. There were no crock pots. Bread was homemade, along with the pies, pickles, and fresh vegetables from the garden. Even ketchup was stored down in the cellar along with the fruit and various jellies! One Thanksgiving, I remembered my grandma saying, would you all mind just sitting and visiting for a few minutes before you rush off to hunt, because it took so long to prepare this meal and Id like to just sit and enjoy one another for a bit. (That stuck with me for life. I wish she was here today so I could say thank you.) It was after that day, I became more aware of all the hard work that went into a meal and started helping at least with the dishes afterwards. Young mommas, teach your kids to offer to help clear the table, do the dishes, and put the food away. I think its lost courtesy we are forgetting to teach. (I must say, I was proud of my son who entered the kitchen as I was doing the dishes and asked if he could help (even if he was prompted by his dad!) :)
