IF YOURE AN SF VOTER Please vote NO on PROP H and YES on PROP I. This will allow the City to use astroturf on its sports fields. We would all prefer real grass without a doubt BUT......the City cannot maintain real grass and your vote is important for the following reasons: a) The SF maintained grass fields are in HORRIBLE condition and filled with pot holes and dead grass. Because SF prioritizes so much money in employee salaries (which mostly leaves the City as most SF employees making 100K + do not live in the City) there is very little money left for programs for actual SF residents who are the ones paying the taxes in the first place. SF cannot maintain grass fields. Pure and simple. The activists who put this measure on the ballot will do nothing to follow up to make sure the grass fields are better funded. If you are someone like me with a history of ankle sprains then you absolutely cannot use the City grass fields unless you want to go to the emergency room. b) If we ban astro turf then the people that lose are mostly children and this is related to why SF has a horrible rate of success in youth sports in general. I broke down the amount of girls playing D1 college soccer in Northern California according to the 5 greater Bay Area regions and it went like this 18 MARIN / NO BAY 28 PENINSULA / SAN JOSE 17 OAKLAND / EASTBAY 26 CONTRA COSTA / BEYOND CALDECOTT TUNNEL 23 SACRAMENTO REGION 2 ***** SAN FRANCISCO **** This is downright pathetic...and similar numbers are true in most all sports (except for girls basketball bc of MRC / Mission Rec Basketball for Girls...which has been significantly downsized since the untimely death of Oscar Jimenez RIP) The two soccer girls who are form SF both played on club teams outside of SF... as do my two daughters bc the teams outside the City are better...greatly bc they have better fields some of which are Turf and some are grass bc those smaller municipalities save ore of their general fund to provide these services. Yet there are still people that feel that they want to organize against youth sports...and against immigrants and brown people using fields more often. VOTE NO ON H VOTE YES ON I
