IM BAAAAAACK!!!! Wowzers...I noticed that my last post on Cents & Sensibility was on January 31, 2013. Let me briefly explain to you why that was and where Ive been... Back on February 1, 2013, I went to the local ER because of some ongoing abdominal pain, fever, and back pain that Id been dealing with. I ended up being admitted and transferred to a larger hospital out of the area the next day. That night, I had emergency exploratory abdominal surgery. Turns out, I had an extremely severe (and still unexplained) infection in my abdomen. Many of my organs were compromised. When I say that I nearly died, that is not an exaggeration. Actually, that was probably true several times. After the surgery, I spent several days in the ICU. I suffered from respiratory failure and acute kidney failure and had many complications after surgery. I ended up spending 3 weeks in the hospital. (I remember very little of any of that time due to being so highly medicated, which is probably a good thing.) Shortly before I was released, my abdominal incision completely opened up. This terrible development required me to be on a wound vac 24/7 for the next 5 months at home to attempt to heal the wound, which basically confined me to one place. Even after the wound vac was finally removed, I still struggled with other post-surgery issues. That is true even today, a year and a half later. So, I apologize for my sudden absence back then, but hope you will understand. Even after I returned home, I had no interest in doing things such as this page. Its taken a long time for me to feel normal again and have a renewed interest in many things. For a long while, I wasnt able to shop or go couponing, unless it was online. One thing Ill say is that I learned the value of having a stockpile. It was such a blessing to my family while I was sick. Other than basic food needs, my husband didnt have to worry about purchasing anything else for the household during those months -- The Vorp Store, which we affectionately refer to our stockpile as, supplied all our needs. Being so sick left me with a lot of time to think and evaluate things. For some time now, Ive been wrestling with what to do with the Cents & Sensibility page and whether or not to pick it back up again. While I am now back, things will be a bit different going forward. When I created this page, the hope was that I could help and inspire my friends and others to effectively learn to save money in a lot of different ways. That was a great purpose and plan, but I quickly let it become something that took over my life quite a bit, because I wanted to provide all the information I could and have a great page that no one would be disappointed with. This is a general flaw of mine. Upon reflection, Ive realized I moved away from the true purpose of the page and devoted more time to it than I should have, often at the expense of family and friends. My hobby became a full-time job with no pay. So, Im going to take this page back to its roots. Rather than killing myself by trying to post every deal out there, Im going to point you to pages that already do that extremely well. Ill focus more on teaching. Ill still post deals, samples, coupons, and other things as often as I can do so conveniently. Ill try to point you to local values. Ill especially post great finds during the Christmas shopping season, which (in my opinion) begins about now. ;) Ill still do occasional giveaways and contests. Hopefully, C&S will still help you save and learn to save even more...just at a pace that doesnt burn me out. :) I also want this to be a page where YOU can share YOUR finds. Did you see a great item on clearance at Target? Come and share it! I welcome and encourage your involvement! I didnt want to begin posting again at all until I knew for sure what direction I wanted to take with the page and what I was willing to commit to. That time has arrived. Welcome to the official re-launch of C&S! The first thing you will want to do to maximize your savings is ensure that you are seeing as many C&S posts as possible. (Facebook filters posts and doesnt show them all to you.) First, click on the Follow button at the top of the Cents & Sensibility page to make sure that you havent just liked the page, but are following it as well. Also, interact on the page. The more you like and comment, the more you will see C&S posts in your news feed. Ill share more tips to boost your viewership soon. Im excited to be back -- Ive missed you guys! :) If youve read through all this, God bless you. As a reward of sorts, comment below for your chance to win a $10 Amazon or Starbucks (your choice) gift card that I will be giving away on August 10th!
