Individual liberty for ourselves is something we all want and - TopicsExpress

Individual liberty for ourselves is something we all want and agree on. But pollution, landholding, and mercenary violence are just a few instances of individual liberty which endanger social liberty. Social libertarianism is the only kind of libertarianism - that I can point to on a map or that I can conceive of logically and theoretically. Im in pursuit of a society that a majority of people voluntarily consent to; but a society which is voluntary for everybody is literally impossible. Value pluralism is a plain truth of existence (sometimes peoples opinions conflict). And some people have brain damage, making them insane or literally unable to make a decision. So voluntaryism (or consensus democracy) is literally impossible. At the same rate, I view jury nullification as ensuring protection for minorities. That is to say, the only way I see of truly protecting minorities is to expand the consent required for a legal action - such that one minority or conscientious objector can hang the jury and let the defendant walk. So, you see, it is precisely and only greater degrees of collectivism in violence, which can protect minorities.
