Just thinking about sin today. Sin is an offense to God and others. Vertical and horizontal. Everyone who had ever lived except Jesus has sinned. As a christian I believe that Jesus died in my place, for my sins against him and others. The bad news is that I am intrinsically wicked in my heart. The good news is ht God loves me despite my sin and he knows every sin Ive ever committed, past present and future. None of my sin is a surprise to him, but it is to me sometimes. I have sinned so much... In fact almost daily I can count and see in some way that Ive sinned. (Now some of you might be thinking dont be so hard on yourself or you are worried Im depressed at this point, the truth is Im sober minded and thoughtfully thinking upon the gospel and the verses below) back to daily sinning thing... God is aware of my sin. His answer to my sin problem is the gospel of Jesus. He takes my place and gives me his perfect obedience and takes my wickedness and disobedience. God calls me to confess the sin we both know about and be honest and humble, telling the complete truth. After confessing to God and he ones Ive sinned against he calls me to repent and forsake my sin, turning towards God and away from my selfish pride. What happens next is forgiveness and reconciliation. God forgives my sin because hes already punished Jesus in my place. We can forgive also because Jesus died for other peoples sin against us. If you have been so hurt by sin and you want blood... Look to the cross and see his blood poured out, see his face bruised and beaten, see him and his family suffer while on that cross paying for all our sins. Something Ive been learning about sin is that when I sin and I deny that I just sinned and harden and callous my conscience and the Holy Spirit, it is impossible for me to not sin until I confess and repent of that sin Im being convicted of. I literally cannot be pleasing to God while I have unconfessed sin because the sin is seperating me from God. It is impossible to please and worship the God you are denying and ignoring, even if what youre doing is for the church. Here are some verses Im thinking of... May God be pleased with you and I today. Proverbs 28:13-14 Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy. Blessed is the one who fears the Lord always, but whoever hardens his heart will fall into calamity. 1 John 1:8-10 If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us. Proverbs 16:6 By steadfast love and faithfulness iniquity is atoned for, and by the fear of the Lord one turns away from evil.
