Left us on this day (Nov. 28) in 2005: UK drummer Tony Meehan (head injuries from a fall, age 62), best remembered as a founding member of influential, late-50s/early-60s British instrumental group, The Shadows (along with Jet Harris, Hank Marvin & Bruce Welch); he played drums on early Cliff Richard & The Shadows hits & on early Shadows instrumentals, including the #1 hits Apache & Kon Tiki; nicknamed The Baron, he influenced many a UK youth to take up the instrument, including Mick Fleetwood of Fleetwood Mac; he left the band in 1961 to work as an arranger/producer & session drummer for Joe Meek & from early-1962, at Decca Records, eventually settling into a career in A&R; as a duo with Shadows bass player Jet Harris, Tony also enjoyed the 1963 #1 hit Diamonds; Tony quit the music industry in the 90s for a major career change as a psychologist, fulfilling a lifelong hobby/interest…
