March 19th, 2014. Sammie. Samantha. Wigglebutt. Fur Machine. The smartest dog Ive ever known. Before my dad descended completely into dementia, he made me promise that Sammie would stay in our family. Adopted by best friends Ron McElroy and Lynne Mcelroy, Sammie lived the rest of her life surrounded by all our extended families and friends. She knew the meaning of every word you spoke to her (though sometimes she would choose to ignore them). She could outrun much bigger dogs and loved to play ball until whichever human was throwing it got tired of the game. She loved to ride cars and loved to go camping. She really believed she was a human, not a dog. I already miss her Big Bark and her coy little bark, her frenzied where-have-you-been greeting, the look she gave you when she wanted to play. She had the best, blissed smile when she was happy, and she was happy nearly every day of her life. Thank you Sammie, for bringing that happiness into the lives of those who loved you.
