Montecatini Terme: The therapeutic properties of Montecatini - TopicsExpress

Montecatini Terme: The therapeutic properties of Montecatini waters were already known in the Romans’ time: our garden-town bewitches the visitor with its wonders made up of picturesque avenues, green and flowery oases, artistic beauties, serene quietness and warm hospitality. These waters originate from a hydro-mineral basin that is located at a depth of 60-80 meters, mainly belonging to the chloride-sulphate-sodium water type and are bacteriologically pure. They have been carefully examined for their physical, chemical, clinical and pharmacological aspects, to such an extent as to generate a very rich medical literature. It was thus demonstrated that they have extraordinary beneficial effects on your health and body. They are mostly employed to treat the digestive and metabolic systems. Our thermal mud applications are beneficial to your locomotor apparatus. In 1417, The first person to write a treatise describing the properties and therapeutic indications of our waters was the founder of the Italian medical Hydrology, Ugolino da Montecatini. However, not until the 18th century was this important hydro-mineral basin adequately appreciated. Grand Duke of Tuscany, Pietro Leopoldo, availed himself of the knowledge of a group of famous scholars, such as Naturalist Giovanni Targiani Tozzetti, and gave birth to our Thermal Town, ordering the building of Bagno Regio (1773), Terme Leopoldine (1775) and, finally, Terme Tettuccio (1779). This reformist Prince also planned an efficient canalization of the spring waters and ordered the land reclamation of the marshy areas in order to clean the air. These were the necessary first steps that led to the meaningful hygienic-sanitary leadership of Montecatini. As a matter of fact, our town enjoyed in the 20th century a great international prestige as a treatment resort and a holiday and tourism place, offering a perfect harmony with the natural and economic environment. Actually, in the early 20th century our Terme had to be renovated because of the high number of visitors coming here. The Società Nuove Terme and Regie Terme managed the Terme: they enlarged the Torretta and Tamerici buildings and entrusted Architect Bernardini to design the Terme Excelsior. In the Twenties, Architect Ugo Giovannozzi, under the careful guidance of the new Company, built further areas for bath, mud and inhalation treatments, in the silent oasis of the Park, and designed other works to increase the fame of Montecatini, such as the renovation and enlargement of Terme Leopoldine and the re-building of Terme Tettuccio, the true emblem of Montecatini. Our Terme and Town have overcome the challenge of time, still today maintaining the aspect of a charming and polychromatic place, with historical spa establishments, waters with several therapeutic properties, a wide park, sports, accommodation and congress facilities, cultural occasions, entertainment suggestions, worldly events and offers for all requirements. We are surrounded by a splendid territory and our guests can thus not only be treated but also, and perhaps more importantly, enjoy a pleasant stay and regain their physical and mental wellbeing. from termemontecatini.it/?q=en/node/183
