My Easter Reflection 2014 Once more, as we witness today’s greatest event in the history of the world – Jesus’ Resurrection, let us try to examine ourselves and ask this question: Could it be that sometimes we respond to the story of Easter in a lame way? True - we marveled at the story of Jesus rising from the dead. We cheered for Him. We applauded for Him. We exclaimed joyfully the “Alleluia”. But that’s about it. When Monday comes, we revert to our high tech gadgets, newspapers, office deadlines, changing diapers and household chores and personal issues. Pretty soon, our memories of Easter are simply that of Easter eggs and bunnies. Really, I guess we are no different from Peter whose reaction to the sight of an empty tomb was just about amazement. He was not inspired or challenged or even encouraged. He was just amazed. This is sad. You see, Easter is not about simply being amazed. It is about being transformed. It is about being changed from within. It is about having a total make over from inside out. Today, our faith challenges us to make this Easter Season truly different. Embrace its full power. Consider its full bang. It isn’t enough that we are stunned by Jesus rising from the grave. It is essential that we are transformed by it. We get rid of unethical mindsets. We let go of damaging thoughts. We turn away from disagreeable habits. We start making new healthy ones. We need to become freer of the attachment to self in which we get occupied with me-me-me. We start living to do something for someone - reaching down and lifting him/her up. We share our blessings. We need to practice humility and forgive so that one day we can pray for the wholeness of the persons who caused us pain and suffering. Yes, we believe in God’s ability to grant our prayers. We trust on God’s capability to fulfill them for us. We claim Gods miracles. We had enough of mediocrity. We raise the bar. We need to have more faith. More trust. More love and compassion. More courage.More discipline. I dont think God is impressed with amazement. He wants to see transformation. And just like Peter who was eventually transformed by the power of Easter, may we, too, use the reality of the empty tomb to do great things with our lives. More than amazing indeed! Happy Easter everyone!
