My daily update from a medically trained and education voice of reason. A few days back I made a few predictions about Ebola in the US. I am mindful of the wisdom from Yogi Berra, Its tough to make predictions, especially about the future. However, I am glad to see that one of my predictions seems to be coming to pass. Maine has lost the first round in their attempt to confine returning Ebola worker Kaci Hickox to her home. She has agreed to comply with the less restrictive orders to actively monitor her temperature, coordinate any travel with the health department and immediately report any symptoms. I can tell you that those of us working in Sierra Leone have discussed this quite a bit and all are more than willing to keep others safe, and all have thought through plans to minimize public contact and comply with active monitoring. So far my other prediction is holding - no sustained transmission in the US (actually zero cases of transmission outside health care institutions). Of course it continues to ravage Sierra Leone - so prayers and brave health care workers much appreciated. ~Dr. James McCauley reuters/article/2014/10/31/us-health-ebola-usa-idUSKBN0II1SP20141031
