On Halloween night I went to Multikino to see Frankenstein, - TopicsExpress

On Halloween night I went to Multikino to see Frankenstein, directed by Danny Boyle (Trainspotting), produced by National Theatre in London in 2011, in which Benedict Cumberbatch and Johnny Lee Miller played the roles of Victor Frankenstein and his Creation respectively. The novel was very skillfully adapted into a play by Nick Dear, and I must admit this is the first adaptation Ive seen that does justice to the novel, to its Romanticism and to the complicated relationship between Frankenstein and the Creation. It was an ingenious idea to make Cumberbatch and Lee Miller play the roles intermittently, on various occasions, when the play was performed live (I watched the recorded version, obviously, but now it makes me crave to see Cumberbatch as the Creation). This toys with the idea, seen clearly in many critical interpretations of the novel, that these two characters are indeed dopplegangers. Elizabeth has gotten a new, much more likeable rendition compared to the novel, and there is suprising comic relief present. The staging is magnificent in its simplicity. Altogether, if you ever see Multikino play it again, do go & see it: it is definitely worth it and it is a feast to the eyes, ears (British accents!) and brains.
