On yesterday I had the privilege of advising a very special young man. He was timid and uncertain about what the steps of enrollment were and he kept apologizing for not knowing. I told him to stop and to never apologize for who you are or for being somewhere you have a right to be. His face started to lift as he weighed what I said. As he headed out the door I noticed them. He was wearing dog tags. I asked, Were you in the military? He said, Yes, Mam... As my eyes Iocked with his, I simply told, You, much more than anyone, have no reason to apologize for who you are or for being here. Thank you for your service. I actually got a smile. I wanted to hug him. Thats why I love my job.
