***PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT*** ***UPDATE ON THE SITUATION AROUND THE WARNING AREA THIS INCLUDES ANY CHANGES, OPENINGS OR CLOSURES IN CAIRNS AND TOWNSVILLE AND SURROUNDING AREAS TOO*** ***PLEASE READ AND SHARE AND COMMENT TO UPDATE THIS INFO BELOW*** ***JUST INFORMED BY LAUREN IN REDLYNCH VALLEY AT 7:56PM THAT THE SES AND ARMY ARE THERE DUE TO FLOOD EMERGENCY PEOPLE IN AND DRIVING AROUND THIS AREA TAKE CARE*** Continuing from this morning on whats open around the Warning area, road closures, fallen power lines and trees flooded creeks and rivers which may be affecting road access here is a list from earlier this morning on what is currently going on and if you have any information to add to this please feel free to comment below on anything from around the warning area. Firstly some disturbing reports on some people posing as SES and emergency services personnel conning people into giving them their possessions. Government officials and Police have said to NOT to give anyone not wearing an SES or other emergency personnel uniform and cannot produce an official identification your possessions or other things which belong to you. Government Officials and the Police have warned offenders will be caught and dealt accordingly. For Cairns residents: Anyone driving around just to the north of the airport important to advise that the Barron River and Thomatis creek section of the cook highway is now closed to all traffic. WHATS OPEN TONIGHT: From earlier on this morning here is a list of what is open and trading today: *Palm Cove Village and Deli opened and trading through until 7pm tonight. (Informed By Kate Dewar that they have now closed due to deteriorating weather however they will reopen at 7am tomorrow morning). *Dominos Pizza at Manunda and Edmonton trading if you are looking for some hot and fresh Pizza (Closed earlier as notified by Tahlia Jayne Bell) *La Pizza on the Esplanade restaurant opened for trading * Foodvixen (food blog page on Facebook) informed that Smith st cafe in Cairns is open and trading today if you are looking for some fresh coffee. (presumed closed now but not confirmed) *Portsmith fuel stations in Cairns are trading if you are looking for fuel for your car. * Hambledon Hotel is open as well as their TAB for $3million Doncaster Day at Randwick. *Hungry Jacks and Red Rooster at Mt sheridan Shopping center opend and trading. *Night Owl convenience store open at Balaclava road Earlville Cairns. *Cazalys Club is open and trading (advised they have closed for the evening) *Brothers Leagues Club is open and trading *anyone who can confirm if the Casino is open *Reports other restaurants are now opened along the esplanade in Cairns if anyone knows the exact ones feel free to comment below. *Roads into Machans, Holloways and Yorkeys Knob Beaches are CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC *If there are any other openings you know of not just around Cairns but anywhere Port douglas, Mossman, Cooktown if you are located on the Tablelands what is opened and closed up there today write in and let us know. WHAT IS CURRENTLY CLOSED: *All major shopping centers around Cairns *The Cairns international Airport (no confirmation that it has opened) *Kuranda and Gillies Ranges Kennedy highway near peats bridge under 5m of water. *Mossman and Mt Molloy Road not sure if the road through to the Palmer river would be open or if the Mcleod River is over any confirmation on this would be appreciated. *Cook Highway to Port Douglas (closed due to landslide) *The road at south mossman ris cloased due to fallen power lines however if you live in this area and can confirm this open please comment below. * The Daintree River is in major Flood with over 350mm in 24hrs falling in this catchment and the Ferry service is suspended as reported earlier. The Big and Little Annan Rivers into Cooktown are over and all roads into Cooktown are closed and impassable due to flooding of the many creeks and river through that area. *Cape Tribulation road is closed. *Red Arrown and Blue Arrow walking tracks through Mt Whitfield in Cairns are closed *Lake Morris road to Copperlode dam * Just recently reported a large tree is down over the north bound lane on Reservoir Road just past Charcoal Chicken no word if the road is closed but use caution with this section of the road if you are planning to head out to Brinsmead or Redlynch from Cairns. *Mulgrave River in Major flood with 8.3m peak predicted at peats bridge and 15m further down at Gordonvale. Road may close if water floods the lower section of the Bruce highway Immediately past new bridge and before the Aloomba turn off. * Herberton range road closed due to Landslide. *If anyone is around Laura, Cooktown, Lions Den Hotel to the south of Cooktown Palmerville and the Palmer river roadhouse if you can comment on conditions there would be great. Power outages: From this morning *Newell beach *Miallo *Cooya beach *wonga beach *parts of Yorkeys Knob (but not confirmed) *Julatten * Wrights creek * Kamerunga and Freshwater *Kuranda *Davies Creek *Clifton Beach *Trinity Beach *Mareeba *Mossman *Mowbray south of Port Douglas *Oak Beach *Wangetti Beach *Daintree and Lower Daintree *Yarrabah *Edmonton *Edge Hill *Manoora Any other information to add to this will be greatly appreciated either opening or closures updated road and traffic information power outages in your area whatever you see on the road or in your neighbourhood from cooktown to Townsville even to Mackay if Necessary, please do not hesitate to comment below.
