Psi Chi is soliciting nominations for Distinguished Members of Psi Chi. The current Distinguished Members can be seen at psichi.org/?Dist_Members Explanation and nomination process is described here. Note the dates are a little different this year, as we are trying to get this category of membership re-started, as it has been dormant. The information below was approved by the Board of Directors at the June 2014 BoD meeting. Please send nominations to me (Evan Zucker) at [email protected]. Purpose and Philosophy The purpose of the distinguished member program is to recognize individuals whose accomplishments have represented the excellence associated with Psi Chi through service to the society, service to the mission of Psi Chi, and/or prominence in the field of psychology. Psi Chi’s Mission Statement The mission of Psi Chi is to produce a well-educated, ethical, and socially responsible member committed to contributing to the science and profession of psychology and to society in general. In pursuit of our mission we will: 1. Advance the science and profession of psychology. 2. Promote an educational experience consistent with the mission. 3. Promote ethical and socially responsible members and leaders. 4. Define and establish an organizational structure that promotes our mission. 5. Recognize and foster the contributions that diversity makes to the science and practice of psychology. Criteria for Selection Recipients* will be accomplished in one of the three distinct areas as outlined below. This distinction will be reflective of Psi Chi’s mission of producing well-educated, ethical, and socially responsible members committed to contributing to the science and profession of psychology, and to society in general. * Professional Achievement in Psychology: The nominee’s professional efforts related to the science of psychology form a record of accomplishment recognized by his/her peers as demonstrating excellence and prominence. It is expected, but not required, that a nominee in this category will have a known connection to Psi Chi (e.g., serving as a faculty advisor, providing a distinguished lecture, mentoring Psi Chi students). * Service to Psi Chi: It is expected, but not required, that a nominee in this category will be a member of Psi Chi. The nominee exhibits integrity and a demonstrated commitment to the service of the Society through evidence of enhancing the education and advancement of members via the formal and informal mechanisms of the society. * Advancing the Mission of Psi Chi: It is expected, but not required, that a nominee in this category became a member of Psi Chi as a student and has demonstrated a sustained record of deeds and actions that reflect both the mission of Psi Chi and the importance of his or her degree from an institution of higher education, as evidenced by the application of excellent critical thinking skills.
