Puff the Vandal Mystery Have you ever spotted any Puff graffiti - TopicsExpress

Puff the Vandal Mystery Have you ever spotted any Puff graffiti or vandalisms in Katipunan, in the campus grounds, restrooms, classrooms, armchairs, lamp posts? Have you ever wondered what they meant or at the very least who is writing them? During my stay in the Ateneo, Ive seen numerous Puff writings in different places and on different things. Now, though, the admin might have already repainted the walls, but perhaps you can still spot some Puffs here and there, especially on old armchairs in Bellarmine. When I was still in my undergrad I was fascinated with L from DeathNote, then I started reading the Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. Based on the principles of observation and induction that I learned from these fictional detectives, I decided to use and have fun with them by trying to track down Puff the Vandal as I called the author of these graffiti. I told some of my friends about my plan and we had a little fun piecing together the puzzles. The following is a list of characteristics of Puff the Vandal that Ive come up with with the help of my friends, L, and Sherlock: 1.) Puff is only one person - The penmanship is very consistent. Simple enough. 2.) Puff is an Atenean College Student - This is based from the reported Puff sightings. Majority of Puffs are in the college campus. 3.) Puff is not a dormer in Cervini. Puff resides (or at least used to reside) somewhere in Katipunan - There were no reported Puff sightings in the U-dorms during my time but there were a lot of Puff graffiti in Katipunan. Ive seen Puffs spraypainted on walls even. Having such a degree of freedom to spraypaint on walls without getting caught means that Puff is most likely doing them very late at night. Dormers cant afford to stay outside so late frequently. 4.) Puff is a guy - I saw a Puff in one of the cubicles in mens restroom in the SocSci building. There were no reported Puffs in female restrooms by my friends. Unless youve seen one in a female restroom, chances are that hes a guy. Simple enough. 5.) Puff is around 55-510 ft tall - People tend to write on eye level while standing. Based on the Puff I saw on the cubicle, it was easy to have a rough of his height. 6.) Puff is right-handed - Ive seen numerous samples of Puff writings. I did a little experiment on handwriting and compared the vertical lines in the penmanship of lefties and righties. The moment you put the tip of your pen on the paper is the moment when you exert more pressure, thus making a little blot. Also, when writing vertical lines such as in the letter f righties tend to stroke from left to right. I noticed that Puffs strokes were from left to right, as evidenced by a blot on the left side of his vertical lines. Observe your friends and observe your own natural strokes when you right to see what I mean. 7.) Sadly, Puff had already graduated - He is most likely batch 2012 or lower. When I was a freshman I already saw numerous Puff vandals. I am batch 2013. Originally, I was planning to go further to find out his course by consolidating the Puff sightings in different classrooms and buildings to see what kind of possible schedule he has, and based on those possible schedules, to see which ones fit in the schedules of students of different years and courses. However, the amount of effort and manpower that would take is too much for me. Im not obsessed with Puff, its not worth my time. I was satisfied with the information I got just by applying Sherlocks and Ls principles and of course with the help of my friends. My logic class also helped me. At the end of the day, I had fun, and thats what matters. Final note, please do not revive the Puff Mystery. Some of you might feel the urge to act cool and start vandalizing on school property. Please know that you are not cool by doing so and that the principles that I have laid down here may be used by anyone in campus to track you down and punish you. I hope you enjoyed reading this. Good bye. Zaffre School of Humanities (SOH) Philosophy 2013
