Rolling Over In Their Graves . . . . Back in 1785, Founding Father James Madison – soon to be the principal architect of BOTH the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and our nation’s fourth president – had this to say about the need for government to remain strictly neutral in matters of religion: “Whilst we assert for ourselves a freedom to embrace, to profess and to observe the Religion which we believe to be of divine origin, we cannot deny an equal freedom to those whose minds have not yet yielded to the evidence which has convinced us.” Well, thank heavens that TODAY we have a right-wing judicial demagogue like Antonin Scalia to set Mr. Madison and the rest of those silly “Framers” straight about the REAL meaning of those documents THEY wrote, and to explain why it’s perfectly OK for government to entangle itself with religion. That sound you hear? It’s just the entire Continental Congress rolling over in their graves. Pay them no attention.
