SAME OLD STORY! …MANGWIRO RUES MISSED CHANCES By Chipo Sabeta CAPS United gaffer Taurai Mangwiro was left to rue a missed opportunities as his team lost 2-1 at the hands of bitter rivals Dynamos at the National Sports Stadium yesterday. Mangwiro’s charges enjoyed the first half, took an eighth minute lead through their skipper Tendai Samanja and hit the woodwork three times. On another afternoon against another PSL opponent, CAPS United would have been 4-0 up at the break. But this was against Dynamos and the narrow lead was erased 10 minutes into the second half and it was a CAPS United son who equalised with an effort that could easily have been a cross into the box. Mangwiro’s former player at Monoz, Russel Madamombe then delivered the killer punch, pouncing on a rebound to secure the points for Dynamos. In yesterday’s match, Mangwiro gave the starting nod to new arrivals Nicholas Alfandika and Honey Chimutimunzeve while Charlton Mudzambwa played his first match since his arrival at the club this year. The visibly dejected Mangwiro said: “I am disappointed. The game was in our hands but we blew away the chances. We had numerous chances. We should have killed them in the first half but it seems we surrendered... “We knew it would be a tough game against a good team. I think we had more chances to score and we didnt take them. Just after the break they became physical in every challenge, every ball and pressed hard against us. In possession they had some quality in the second half. Once they scored, they were defending and that made life difficult for us as well.” CAPS United conceded two quick goals and Mangwiro believes it was unfortunate. “We would have loved to defend the lead but I told the guys to fight in the same manner they were doing in the first half to the end, you will ask if it’s a curse or something else. “My guys were caught napping when they (Dynamos) equalised. We expected the guys to re-group and suddenly, that’s when we conceded the second goal. Our comeback became very difficult, so much of time wasting and the non existence of ball boys”, he said.
