SEVERE WEATHER TODAY AND TOMORROW Weekend Weather OutlookUPDATED 7:30 AM EDT, June 8, 2013By WeatherBug Meteorologists, Seth Carrier and James WestRelated Content: Todays Outlook Sundays Outlook United States Alert Map Enlarge The second weekend of June will be full of summer weather. The year`s first major heat wave, leftover tropical downpours and more thunderstorms are just a few things that will affect the U.S. weather this weekend. WeatherBug Meteorologist Katie Ferrier has the latest in her exclusive WeatherBug National Outlook video. Today: The biggest weather trouble will be found across the Northeast, where the remnants of Andrea will bring a few lingering downpours to the Mid-Atlantic this morning. New England will also see the rain longer before the weather begins to clear from south to north this afternoon. Flash flooding will be possible in poor drainage areas. Thanks to the rain, temperatures in the rain from the low 80s in the Mid-Atlantic to mid-70s in the Northeast and New England. Expanding afternoon thunderstorms will also cause a bit of trouble across the northern and central Plains and across the eastern Gulf Coast and Florida. Both of these areas will not see the storms until later in the day, so some outdoor activity is possible. The storms in the Plains could produce damaging winds and hail while the Florida storms bring intense downpours. The rest of the U.S. will see plenty of early June sunshine. The hottest temperatures will be in the Southwest, interior California and the southern Great Basin, where highs will jump into the triple digits. This hot weather will extend throughout the rest of the West, with 90s found in the rest of the California except along the coast, where the Pacific Ocean will keep temperatures in the low 60s. Similar 90s will be found across the southern Rockies and across the Texas. Highs in the 80s will extend well north into the Northwest and eastward across the Rockies, Plains, lower Mississippi Valley and into the South and Southeast. The coolest temperatures will be around the Great Lakes, where low 70s will be common. Sunday: Low pressure skirting through the Midwest will deliver showers and a few potent afternoon thunderstorms to the Mid-Mississippi Valley and Midwest. These could be enough to put a damper on outdoor plans in cities such as Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Louis. Even though Andrea will be long gone, an unstable atmosphere in place over the Southeast U.S. will lead to more afternoon thunderstorms bubbling up from the Mason-Dixon Line to South Florida. The Gulf Coast will see downpours that could bring about flash flooding to close out the weekend. A very different weather story will be in play in the western U.S. on Sunday, as plentiful sunshine and upper-level winds arcing into Canada will lead to high temperatures surging 10 to 20 degrees above average from the Desert Southwest to the northern Rockies. This will place cities such as Phoenix and Las Vegas near the 105-degree mark, while the rest of the Desert Southwest hovers near 100. Highs well into the 90s will also extend from Texas to the central Rockies. Only the immediate West Coast will see more comfortable 70s because of the marine influence. Elsewhere, highs in the 80s will be common from southern New England to Florida and west into the central Plains. A belt of lower 90s will even be possible in the Deep South. Meanwhile, more comfortable 70s will extend along the Northern Tier from northern New England to the northern Rockies. Even a few cooler 60s will be in the cards for the Great Lakes and upper Mississippi Valley.
