Some people have been unfortunate enough to lose their 20 + - TopicsExpress

Some people have been unfortunate enough to lose their 20 + children who are already married or partnered with children of their own. In more than one connection I have found that the remaining partner of the spirit son or daughter has moved on in a relatively short time. This more often than not causes a great deal of distress to the parents of the deceased son or daughter, and they cannot fathom how the partner could have moved on so quickly. I think in these cases it is very important to remember that sometimes when we are our lowest and most vulnerable, in a deep dark place because of grief that a person showing interest in us can be a welcome relief from the pain and that is where your son- in laws or daughter in laws may have found themselves. It does not mean they do not love your child any longer - nor does it mean they have forgotten your child , it just means they have found a ray of light in a very dark place. I feel it is essential for your own sake to try and maintain a healthy relationship for the sake of grand kids or else you may find yourself in a very sad situation of not getting access visits to the last living connection to your child - I understand that some times the daughter or son - in law will try and break away but you must just shrug it all off - smile through your grief and always be kind so as to hold onto your grandchildren. I mean that is your right but if you get angry or indignant over their new choices - you could be sorry. The most important thing I think you can do in this situation is to create a memory book and in this book is every thing your grandchild would like to know about their mum or dad right down to blood group, illnesses , sporting achievements , musical taste and a whole lot of photos - this can be presented to the grandchild when they are old enough to appreciate it - losing a child is not easy - nor is losing a partner, so in this difficult time try kindness over judgement
