Song #8. Alaina Moore of Tennis Music is my kind of pop singer: Shes smart, friendly, sensitive but tough (it was her idea to spraypaint over her face on Ritual in Repeats cover as a f*ck-you to the people trying to force an image onto her). Shes the kind of artist who can appreciate Donna Summer and Carl Jung equally. If you put a gun to my head, I might say that she was my favorite interview of last year. Night Vision encapsulates everything that Tennis gets right with their latest album. The toned-up rhythm section; the ripened vocals; the fusion of the sensual and the spiritual, the ethereal and the grounded (Dont trust your magic / Cant change your habits / So lets be light.)--its everything youd hope for from artists who love their Donna Summer and their Carl Jung. If you think that Tennis is just some twee surf-pop band, think again. Vocally, musically and intellectually, Moore is flexing her muscles here. And I have a feeling that shes just getting started.
