The Backyard Roundup Monday, August 18 There definitely werent any record breaking warm temperatures today in the Maritimes. Showers and rain accompanied by a cool northwest wind made it seem even cooler. Rainfall in my back yard accumulated to over 20 mms during the day. The calendar says its the 18th of August and coincidentally the high temperature here in Pugwash was an unseasonable 18°C. Typically it would be a warmer feeling 23°C today. The rest of the Maritimes didnt fare much better than Pugwash. New Brunswick recorded cooler than normal temperatures. The highest in that province was 22°C in a number of locations but it felt much cooler with the north wind. A temperature of 18°C was the maximum on Prince Edward Island. In Nova Scotia the high was between 18°C and 20°C across the province. Those cool temperatures were dampened by rain, showers and thunderstorms throughout the Maritimes. Thunderstorm warnings and watches were issued for parts of Prince Edward Island and Nova Scotia. Unofficial accumulations of up to 30 mms were recorded in Cape Breton and eastern Prince Edward Island, where the majority of the thunderstorm activity occurred. Lesser amounts fell in New Brunswick. Just under 10 mms fell north of Moncton in Stilesville while closer to the city there was only a couple of millimetres. There is a bit of light at the end of the weather tunnel as the forecast calls for some sunshine tomorrow. Showers are still expected especially in southeastern New Brunswick, northern Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Isolated showers will likely develop elsewhere as well. For a detailed look at the forecast, check the Maritime Weather Webcast with Kalin Mitchell which will be shared here when available this evening. Updated forecasts will be posted tomorrow morning in our provincial summaries. #BackyardWeather (Stephen)
