There are lots of good trainers out there. The good ones take their time with their students, they emphasize safety first. The good ones take their time with a horse so that no short cuts are taken in the name of the almighty blue ribbon. The good ones are transparent, ethical, honest and very candid. The good ones take each horse as an individual and each rider as an individual. The good ones treat their people with respect and kindness yet can become emphatic and intense when the situation calls for it. Condescending and patronizing tones are uncalled for. Good trainers have to know when to push and when to back off, both the horse and the rider. And good trainers have a coach themselves!!!!!! Good trainers clinic with others, good trainers watch at horse shows, primarily the collecting ring and learn what not to do. Good trainers strive to stay educated so they bring back the knowledge to their people. Good trainers are usually by word of mouth and fly low under the radar. Good trainers are humans subject to mistakes but good trainers learn to fail well. Good trainers ensure the horses they ride are well taken care of. Good trainers make sacrifices that no one knows about. Good trainers are the champion in your corner in and out of the riding arena. Good trainers have good students and clients....because good trainers want the knowledge to be paid forward when they are long gone.
