This week in history... ►28 December 1973, SIM and the church in Gure, Nigeria, gave Helen Griffin a celebratory farewell after 38 years of ministry in Gure. (Griffin had served in Nigeria for 46 years.) ►28 December 1984, International Christian Fellowship entered Senegal to reach the Wolof. ►30 December 1987, guerillas killed an Angolan medical worker named Alfonso Daniel who ran a leprosarium in Kalukembe. Daniel was associated with Africa Evangelical Fellowship’s work there. ►1 January 1894, Cape General Mission (f. 1889) and South East Africa Evangelistic Mission (f. 1891) merged to form South Africa General Mission (SAGM). SAGM’s name changed to Africa Evangelical Fellowship (AEF) in 1965. AEF merged with SIM in 1998. ►1 January 1917, John & Edith Hall and Gordon Beacham arrived in Kaltungo, Nigeria, to start what became a thriving working among the Tangale. ►1 January 1968, Ceylon and India General Mission’s name changed to International Christian Fellowship. ►1 January 1972, Nyasa Mission (f. 1894) merged with Africa Evangelical Fellowship (AEF). AEF merged with SIM in 1998. ►1 January 1982, Andes Evangelical Mission (AEM) merged with SIM. AEM, originally known as the Bolivian Indian Mission, was established in 1907 to work in Bolivia, but changed its name after it started to expand to other countries in South America. ►1 January 1986, Life Challenge (f. 1976) based out of South Africa amalgamated into SIM. ►1 January 1989, International Christian Fellowship (f. 1968) that worked in Southeast Asia and West Africa amalgamated with SIM. ►1 January 1995, 20 years ago today, Rev. Tim Kopp succeeded Rev. Ron Genheimer as the International Director of AEF. ►1 January 2012, Asian Access and SIM signed a Memorandum of Understanding that enables SIM to help Asian Access recruit, care for, and logistically support missionaries who minister in Japan.
