Today in black history: June 1 and 2, 1966 - The White House Conference on Civil Rights hosted over 2,400 participants to address discrimination against African Americans in housing, economic security, education. The conference occured during President Lyndon B. Johnsons tenure and followed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. CBCFs Avoice virtual library is filled with robust content on African-American members of Congress. This year, CBCF Avoice Heritage Celebration honored the Lyndon B. Johnson Presidential Library.
