Today’s Seat of Honor highlight is Commander William “Bill” - TopicsExpress

Today’s Seat of Honor highlight is Commander William “Bill” Poarch. Bill served as head of the Communications Department on Intrepid from 1970-1972. During that time, he formed a close friendship with Intrepid Commanding Officer, Captain Charles S. Williams. Bill qualified for and was authorized to stand watch as Officer of the Deck Underway under the direct supervision of Captain Williams. He remembers during the 1971 cruise, Intrepid became the first carrier to conduct flight operations in the Baltic Sea. After retirement, the two friends kept in touch. This Memorial Day, Bill will be dedicating two Seats of Honor: one to commemorate his own distinguished career, but also one for his friend and former captain, Charles S. Williams. Let us know if you also served under Captain Williams or Commander Poarch, pictured here.
