Tonight, Sam and I were quietly tooling along the highway, - TopicsExpress

Tonight, Sam and I were quietly tooling along the highway, discussing who-knows-what, when I interjected that in my opinion the situation was nerve-wracking. Well, that got me thinking... where did a crazy term like that come from? I mean, even the dictionary spells it two different ways. I guess its okay to write nerve-racking. But then THAT creates a wholly different picture doesnt it? I mean a WRACKED nerve seems pretty different to me than a RACKED nerve. If I rack my nerves, I figure Im setting them aside. But if theyre WRACKED, they might be fairly frayed... :) I know, Im a little nuts... but REALLY!! LOL!
