Troy Bruno apparently doesnt get it. So yesterday we introduced you to Troy Bruno , the Fort Calhoun thug who seems to enjoy traveling to Omaha to cause mayhem. Bruno currently sits in prison after being sentenced to 1 year for Terroristic Threats. His original charge was Robbery and he will be free in 3 months thanks to automatic good time. Loyal readers reached out to suggest we look deeper into Mr. Bruno... and so we did. At just 25 years old, a review of Brunos state court records list 25 separate docket numbers from Juvenile and Criminal courts and spanning from Washington County to Douglas and Sarpy Counties. The most serious incidents seem to always happen in Omaha. In 2008, then 18 year old Bruno was arrested for his involvement in a brutal beating in Bensons Gallagher Park. According to media accounts, the savage attack - which included knives and blunt objects, left his victim clinging to life. Bruno was charged with 1st Degree Felony Assault and Use of a Weapon to Commit a Felony and was facing a maximum sentence of 40 years. The charges were later reduced to Misdemeanor Assault to which Bruno likely eagerly pled guilty and was subsequently sentenced to 2 years of probation. Court records indicate Bruno violated his probation in 2009 but the charge was ultimately dismissed in early 2010. Bruno violated his probation again in 2011. He was convicted of violation of probation and sentenced to 180 days in jail (90 days after automatic good time). In late 2013, Bruno meandered from Fort Calhoun to 24th and Ida where he found himself the target of a drive by shooter. Finally, in early 2014 Bruno was accused of the violent Robbery in Omaha which ultimately resulted in his conviction and current incarceration for Terroristic Threats. A review of Brunos public social media paints the picture of a repeat offender who just doesnt seem to get it. Thug glorification... Braggadocios posts about his violent assault arrest... Guns.. Posing children in positions that appear - to us anyways - to duplicate gang signs and gun / trigger hand poses... (or in the words of one commenter... Telling em how it is) Why wont Troy Bruno get the message that his behavior will not be tolerated? Because we (society) havent given him much indication thus far that we care either. Troy Bruno... We will likely see that name again.
