Tired not of distressing news of Turkana Tired not only of lingering IDPs I am tired of news of basic failures Electricity will be rationed I am tired Again water will come only on Saturday I am tired The matatu fair will fluctuate at the whims of the manamba I am tired The roads are made of dust and potholes, but I am not tired of the sun When it rains the roads are made of mud and water pools But I am not tired of the rain Am tired of thinking imagining that my life is better than that of a Turkana and that of the Somali, people from the Northern districts I am tired I am tired of no Ugali flour on the shelves Am tired of kids going to school twelve hours a day I am tired School children spending the holiday in school in the name of tuition Am tired of police blocks serving no function at all but to collect lunch money I am tired of long trailer queues at the weigh stations I am tired of weigh stations mounted right on the highway surface I am tired I am tired of the sign that says “pick only two” I am tired of begging for services that are due to me Am tired of tribal wars constant bickering and simple politics Am tired of thinking imagining that my life is better than that of a Turkana and that of the Somali, people from the Northern districts. In reality we suffer the same I am tired like you I can say it can you? I am tired I am tired of sleeping in a strong room steel door barickaded apartment Shop windows are covered with grills and metal and steel sheets I am tired I am tired of walking to the bus stop and certain that there is no certain transport I am tired of having to get out of the house at five to get to work on time Am tired of waking the kids up at four so they can get the bus to academy Am tired of touts treating me like I can never own a car And drivers driving like I’ll never learn how to drive I am tired. Am tired of Naija Movies, Spanish drama Am tired of vitimbi from our politicians In this respect the Turkana are better than me without occasional electricity they are saved from the same. I can say it can you I am tired of Headmaster sending my children home for school fees education should be free Am tired of Ongeri treating education ministry as a birth right I am working around the system Am tired instead of the system working for me Oh, am tired of long queues in the bank Am tired of thr traffic jam Am tired of the subchief, chief, DO and DC thinking they work for some colonialist and not for me Am tired of those who do not know that the subChief, chief, DO and DC work or them Am not talking about my MP (forget I mentioned him)!
