Category: Storm Alert Summary: If you live southwest of a line from Geraldton to Morawa to Cunderdin to Albany you need to get ready now for the bad weather coming this afternoon. This includes people in, near or between the following towns: Jurien Bay, Geraldton, Dalwallinu, Narrogin, Katanning, Albany, Margaret River, Bridgetown, Busselton, Bunbury, Mandurah, and the Perth metropolitan area and surrounding areas. Content: If you live southwest of a line from Geraldton to Morawa to Cunderdin to Albany you need to get ready now for the bad weather coming this afternoon. This includes people in, near or between the following towns: Jurien Bay, Geraldton, Dalwallinu, Narrogin, Katanning, Albany, Margaret River, Bridgetown, Busselton, Bunbury, Mandurah, and the Perth metropolitan area and surrounding areas. This is typical weather for this time of year but could damage homes and make travel dangerous. WHAT TO DO: DFES has these tips to help you and your family get ready now: •Store or weigh down loose objects around your home like outdoor furniture that could be picked up and thrown by strong winds, causing damage or injury •Ensure your emergency kit is complete including a battery operated radio, torch, spare batteries and first aid kit •Ensure pets and animals are in a safe area •Move vehicles under cover •Boat owners should securely moor their boats •Campers should find safe shelter away from trees, powerlines, storm water drains and streams If you are away from home contact family or friends to prepare your property THUNDERSTORM DETAILS: As at 12.14pm on 17 August 2014 the Bureau of Meteorology advises a strong cold front is approaching the southwest of Western Australia during Sunday afternoon and evening. People are advised that there is a risk of sever thunderstorms affecting western parts of the Southwest District from 5pm this afternoon, extending to west of a line from Jurien Bay to Gingin to Windy Harbour by 10pm and the remainder of the warning area by early Monday morning. Storms may be accompanied by damaging winds and heavy rainfall which may lead to flash flooding. Storms could cause damage to homes and property. There is a slight risk of storms producing large hail affecting the southern Central West district and the adjacent Lower West and Central Wheat Belt with the passage of the front late Sunday evening. If storms develop they are likely to be more intense than usual for this time of year and dangerous conditions may occur in some parts of the warning area.
