\WORK I have spent the most recently passed 22 years working in the civil service, among what I consider to be some of the dullest people in society. Not all of them have been dull, of course -- some of these folks are nearly as awesome as I am -- but most. Id call it 80%. Probably 90. These are folks who get paid a large check every month but who dont understand their roles and cannot adequately explain them, in terms of function and service-delivered. These are folks who cant do tasks expected of them, even if they were asked to do them, which most are not. These are folks who, although they can do nothing with precision, want roles which are less-worky and more-managery. These are folks who dont get jokes, who enjoy church service, attend office functions, and etc. Its a thing to behold, on some days and in some meetings, where youre literally surrounded by folks who have no idea what youre talking about and youre saying the simplest and most-obvious things -- folks who believe youre trying to shut them down or pick a fight because you also happen to be explaining how everything they just said for the past three minutes was factually incorrect. I mean, these people are everywhere in state service. But the only folks who piss me off as I float around in this veritable sea of moronic and self-absorbed skill-free and clueless ladder climbers are the folks who use their words imprecisely or, worse, incorrectly. And when you correct them, they say shit like, Semantics. These people are ruining America. They are a disease within the civil service. Examples: Your inability to get your work done on time is a problem with your units bandwidth. It doesnt mean youre incompetent at that workload. Your desire to get someones opinion of an analysis doesnt mean youre stupid. Just like a technical analysis doesnt mean, by definition, data-based and factual and not subject to opinion. Your belief in teamwork is the same as mine even though, to me, it means I play a position and cover it and you play a position and cover it -- but to you, it means, we all share the blame when you dont get your work done. Sure. Why not? Ill tell you why not: Because, definitions. Words have them. Because, precision. Its a thing to be demonstrated and proof of competence. The trouble with the civil service, at least right now and for the foreseeable future -- and it does effect gubment efficiency -- is the civil service is filled up with incompetent douchebags trying to get more money for themselves via office politics and who dont understand the basic premise they work for government and arent supposed to be doing it only for the money. /WORK
