When I worked for the locations dept. on MARS ATTACKS! I ran into and spoke with Tim Burton briefly a number of times. There was one time however when it was just the two of us driving for about 15 minutes and through the course of the conversation I mentioned how one of the Martian laser-cannon props looked a little like the cleaning machine at the end of the book THE CAT IN THE HAT - a comment made as a sincere compliment. I told him he should definitely make a live-action Dr. Suess movie. (This was 1996, around 4 years before Ron Howard took his shot at The Grinch.) Burton laughed and said Oh yeah, I love Dr. Suess! and that was the end of that line of conversation. Having read these letters I guess hed heard something along those lines once or twice before. I still think it wouldve been a perfect fit and probably would have yielded a damn good if not down-right amazing film, rather than than the unfortunate various Suess films that eventually happened.
