While at the park, a 5yo girl came up to Liv asking her to play. Totally reasonable since they were the only girls there. Yet we all know Liv doesnt understand and cant respond to that. So the girl asked me what was up..is she still a baby or what? Why doesnt she talk? I never know what to say when other kids ask me that, so I just told her she was different and couldnt talk just yet but that we are working on it. So she says to me, maybe it because shes a weirdo. Only kids who are weirdos cant talk when they get bigger. I calmly told her that wasnt nice and that just because people are different from her doesnt make them weirdos. It just makes me so sad that people think of my kids as weirdos. Please, please....we need to teach our kids acceptance, tolerance and understanding for ALL people regardless of things like race, gender and disability. Its so corny, but kids really are the future.
