Wow. This makes me so so happy. So happy! Dear Staff and Parents, Tonight at the school board meeting the board members heard information from the three secondary school principals about what they and their teachers learned on Sept. 29 while visiting other 6A schools that had transitioned grade levels. Some districts took one year, some took 3-5 years, to manage through the transition. The board also heard from all of the elementary principals who talked about space issues and 5th grade moving to a 5/6 school. Over the past month I have been reflecting on staff and community input regarding the grade reconfiguration planning process. I have also reviewed our enrollment numbers for this year. Elementary, as a whole, did not grow as anticipated. Last spring we were told several hundred families were moving to Stillwater this year and that has not occurred. In light of this new information, while I am committed to the need to change the grade reconfiguration in our schools, I have concluded that we need to take more time to develop a thoughtful and deliberate implementation plan. Therefore, I will be recommending to the school board at their November meeting to delay the grade reconfiguration. The timeline will be determined through the planning process. Thank you for the conversations, feedback, communication, and all of your efforts that have taken place so far regarding the grade reconfiguration. I appreciate it very much. Sincerely, Ann Caine, Ed.D. Superintendent
