YESTERDAY IN MUSIC HISTORY (September 20th): 1968: Recording as The Yardbirds, Led Zeppelin began recording their debut album at Olympic Studios in London, England -- the album took 36 hours to complete and cost £1,782 (most tracks recorded "live" in the studio) 1969: John Lennon announced he was leaving The Beatles 1969: "Sugar Sugar" (The Archies) became the "longest running one hit wonder" (8 weeks) in the UK -- it topped the US charts for four weeks 1969: The self-titled Blind Faith album started a two-week run at #1 in the UK 1970: Jim Morrison (The Doors) was acquitted on charges of "lewd and lascivious behavior", but found guilty of exposing himself at The Dinner Key Auditorium (Coconut Grove, Florida) a year and a half earlier -- he was sentenced to pay a $500 fine and given 60 days hard labor -- the sentence was appealed, but Morrison died in Paris before anything else happened 1972: At their Scottish farmhouse in Campbeltown, Paul and Linda McCartney were arrested, for the second time in four weeks, for cannabis possession
