Yet another film about Japanese sword making :-) This one is particularly well filmed though, with nice inserts of tameshigiri, test cutting, and lovely koto music. Interesting to see the hon-sanmai construction of the blade as it seems not to be too common nowadays. This is the combining of hard edge steel, soft core/back and medium steel sides.The more usual approach appears to be the kobuse method where a hard outer sleeve is wrapped around a softer core. And even more rare nowadays is the absence of a power hammer, this is all hand hammered work.
