Posted by Margaret Wehrung Nov 12, 2013 4:08:00 PM Pray-Grieving-Separation-Divorce Each November as we remember and pray for all those who have gone before us, it is also a particularly helpful time to remember the bereaved. As the Christmas season comes alive around us, how difficult it is for those who grieve to face so much good cheer which is such a stark contrast to their pain and loss. It would also be helpful if we remembered all those who grieve because of a marital separation or divorce. No one gets married thinking it won’t last; rather thoughts and dreams go toward building a home, a family and growing old together. But when one spouse decides to move out or move on … the other can be devastated and so are the children. This is often such a desperately lonely place because of the feelings of abandonment, guilt, loneliness and the awareness that there is nothing they can do to fix the relationship. Someone once told me that it would be easier for her to deal with her loss if her ex-husband were dead. It would be horribly painful but in time one could move on. In a divorce situation, once she begins to move on in her life, she has to deal with him again because of the children and all the pain returns. Most people offer their condolences for the survivors of a death, perhaps we should think about doing the same for those who suffer the dissolution of their marriage, their hopes, dreams and future. During this month as it gets darker every day, may we pray for all those suffering the loss of a spouse... no matter how that loss has happened.
