what is wrong with people these days? LMAO tonight I had a reminder of how much un-necessary drama there is in the cosplay community. I WAS (note past tense) a member of a board that discussed cosplay. I was on a thread where this girl posted up an awesome rendition of Jubilee from the 90s cartoon. I was flipping through and noticed a user posted something that Jubilation Lee was supposed to be a short skinny asian girl, not some plus sized white girl. Now this doesnt sit well with me for a number of reasons. 1. I used to be very big too 2. None of my cosplays are racially relevant to me (Im especially noted for doing Colossus whose a towering Hulk of a Russian not some average heighted Korean guy lol) 3.If the user REALLY wants to get technically, its impossible for anyone to be the same size/proportion of a cartoon because their symmetries actually dont measure up. :P I responded by saying that I thought it was an awesome costume and that everything the person had said shouldnt be taken to heart because Ive yet to see them post pics of a cosplay and that cosplaying is about more than just looking physically like the people. I also pointed out that I do Colossus and hes not asian either so to keep it going. Imagine my surprise when the ignorant posted retorted with Well youre an asshole who doesnt know shit about cosplay or respecting characters so you would say that..... Youre right... You are ABSOLUTELY right... Im a total asshole because I think body physique and race should never limit someone from doing what they want to do... how dumb of me... I should have learned my lesson to fear and respect you after we had that giant argument over crossplaying... -_____- If you want to cosplay a character that you might not share similarities with regarding but not limited to: Physique, race, age, gender, spiritual beliefs, pets, WHATEVER... Than do it. I support EVERY cosplayer 110% no matter how strange or out there it may be. No ones got the right to tell you No you cant do something when it doesnt hurt anyone and its something you love.
