JOB DESCRIPTION: LEGAL PROGRAMME MANAGER The LGBT Centre (Mongolia) is looking for a highly qualified and inspired individual experienced in international and domestic legal and judicial systems, international human rights standards, norms, conventions and treaties, legal advocacy and research, policy analysis and management to join the LGBT Centre team of committed and passionate human rights defenders. The Legal Programme Manager shall discharge the following responsibilities: • Lead the Legal Programme area by conducting legal research and analysis in relation to the LGBT rights in Mongolia; • Lead the movement’s legal advocacy on anti-discrimination, hate crimes and general protection of human rights of LGBT persons through multi-stakeholder engagement on the community, civil society and national levels; • Document human rights violations and provide legal assistance to community members; • Develop solid working relations with various legal institutions domestically and internationally aimed at raising and sustaining the high profile of the LGBT rights as human rights in legal fields and the society; • Provide human rights and legal information and training for the LGBT community members as well as legal representation where necessary such as in matters relating to hate crimes, discrimination, gender marker change in documents of trans people; • Conduct advocacy to input LGBT-related protection mechanisms in new laws and regulations; • Take a lead on development and implementation of other programme areas; and • Other responsibilities as may be required. Applicants shall possess preferably a Master’s degree in law, and substantial experience in legal advocacy, policy and legislative analysis, fluency in English, ability to write in diverse styles in both Mongolian and English, ability to work in a dynamic and at times stressful environment, capacity to multitask and work independently as well as in a team as required. Previous experience in academia, political or grassroots campaigns, and legal fields is preferred. Applicants shall have three and more years of relevant work/volunteering experience. The ideal candidate is a creative, highly analytical, communicative, and detail-oriented self-starter. S/he possesses a can-do attitude, flexibility and good humour necessary among staff in a small office.
