A SHORT BIOGRAPHY OF JACK N. YOUNG Jack N. Young was born on September 25, 1926, in Fincastle, Virginia. In 1942, at the age of 15, he was in the US Navy and took part in WWII in Europe. After returning to America and being released from active duty, he started working in Hollywood as a stuntman in 1947 on the movie The Street With No Name. The next year, he met John Ford on She Wore A Yellow Ribbon where he played a cavalry trooper and managed to get one good stunt. From then on, he would do stunts on some of the greatest westerns of the 1950s and become the double of actors such as Clark Gable, Robert Taylor or Richard Widmark. A serious injury sustained while shooting The Alamo in 1959 prevented him from keeping working at such an hectic pace as a stuntman in the 1960s, and he then joined the executive staff of the Old Tucson Studios, thanks to his friend Robert Shelton, the founder of the studios. Jack worked there until 1974, still doing stunts from time to time until 1970. Meanwhile, Jack had begun working as a location manager in 1965 and in the 1970s, it became his main occupation. He did more than 50 movies and TV movies as one, and was involved in even more projects. Jack also worked on some occasions as assistant director or production manager, he did the casting for extras on several movies and even appeared as an actor in Midnight Run alongside Robert De Niro. 88 years old today, he’s still “holding on” as he says himself, though years of stunts took their toll. He still has many projects and the incredible energy that characterized him so well during all his life.
