A TEACHABLE MOMENT I just took a hike along the Rivanna river on a trail behind my hotel in Charlottesville. About a mile in, I saw a middle age black male approaching me in the opposite direction. I had the immediate type reaction that President Obama talked about on Friday, instead of locking the car door, I looked down on ground and picked up the pace. I had a New Mexico State tee shirt on and the gentleman just lit up when he saw it. He had family in Las Cruces and loved the land of enchantment. He expertly articulated some of the problems New Mexico has along with the mind blowing poverty and last place national education rankings . I think he must have taught civics at UVA. After I bid him good day feeling ashamed, I reminded myself that I can do better, the state of Florida can do better, and the nation can do better in terms of inclusion with the epic battles to come as globalization becomes reality.
