APGA Backs State creation and Rotational Presidency. The National Secretary of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Alhaji Sani Shinkafi, has said that the party welcomed the recommendation of the delegates at the National Conference on the creation of more states in the country to address the issue of marginalisation. Shinkafi, in an interview with journalists in Abuja, also said that the resolution to have the presidency rotate among the zones “would also help us to advance our democracy in the country.” Speaking on the reason for the unanimous support for an additional state to be created for the people of the South-east, Shinkafi,who debuted at the conference last week, said almost everybody has acknowledged that the zone has been shortchanged in the area of state creation. “I can say two third of the house adopted the creation of states. South-east in particular, I do not think any of the delegates have spoken against the creation of state in the South-east. All the delegates agreed that additional state need to be created in the South-east and was long overdue.” On the recommendation for rotational presidency, the APGA chieftain, said the measure was a good one, adding that the issue of zoning has been bringing a lot of confusion, division and disunity within even a community within a state. - This Day.
