A few other quick facts: The Sea of Cortez (also known as the Gulf of California) has 19 protected areas, 10 with Biosphere Reserves. All 244 islands, islets, and coastal areas of the sea were declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 2005. And, one of these islands, Tiburón (Shark) Island, is the largest island in Mexico (464 sq miles). Have you spent any time in the Sea of Cortez or around these amazing protected areas?
