TOP 10 MUSIC ALBUMS OF 2014 SLIPKNOT - .5: THE GRAY CHAPTER (Nu Metal) The masked monsters show their human side after the death of their fallen brother, #2 Paul Gray. Unafraid to show the melancholy underneath the anger, this could possibly be their most mature album to date. https://youtube/watch?v=XEEasR7hVhA THE GLITCH MOB - LOVE DEATH IMMORTALITY (Electronic/Glitch) An amazing blend of emotional unnervings and feel-good dance tunes. The Glitch Mob is no ordinary electronic dance group, and this album solidifies the legendary light they are held in. https://youtube/watch?v=nk6wVLeIbdM ISLANDER - VIOLENCE & DESTRUCTION (Nu Metal) A fairly unknown group from California. Got legitimately addicted to this album for weeks. Lots of Deftones influence. https://youtube/watch?v=P_eTn12HhuY BASSNECTAR - NVSB Remixes (Electronic/Dubstep) Although Noise Vs. Beauty was an unreal album on its own, this is probably the greatest set of remixes Ive ever heard. Over 20 tracks of unbelievable tunes remixed by the likes of Kill Paris, At Dawn We Rage, Minnesota, Rise at Night, and the master himself, Bassnectar. https://youtube/watch?v=NGBnYonnSms WHITE LUNG - DEEP FANTASY (Punk/Garage Rock) A Vancouver band who is hot on the rise. A mostly female group with edge that is keeping the punk scene in check. Their 2012 album Sorry showed signs of White Lung becoming a real deal, and Deep Fantasy only goes a step further. Excited to see where this group goes in the years to come. https://youtube/watch?v=h-XRjm4gFlI PINK FLOYD - THE ENDLESS RIVER (Psychedelic Rock) Despite the absence of frontman Roger Waters, this mostly instrumental album takes us on a psychedelic journey, as expected from this UK name that came to prominence in the 1970s. Although the album as a whole was only recorded by two members, it stays true to the Pink Floyd sound, and is a showcase that an ensemble can be much more than just their frontman. Below is Louder than Words the only track with vocals, sung by guitarist David Gilmour... chilling how genius it is. https://youtube/watch?v=Ezc4HdLGxg4 CROSSES - CROSSES (Electronic Rock) A somewhat electronic-rock side project from Deftones frontman Chino Moreno. 15 solid tracks. https://youtube/watch?v=3SlBuXkUxQo VALENTIINE - VALENTIINE (Grunge) These ladies are showing that Grunge is Not Dead with this 2014 release from Australia. Super grungy album that only seems to be available overseas. I made a Spotify account just to listen to this album in full, as its not fully available anywhere online, including the North American iTunes, or YouTube. PS - I also love Spotify. https://youtube/watch?v=YXOhXj0CXGY DILLON FRANCIS, MONEY SUCKS, FRIENDS RULE (Electronic) Just a fun EDM album loaded with bangers that can keep you on your feet all night long. https://youtube/watch?v=VrVFjPl2Whg KNIFE PARTY - ABANDON ALL SHIPS (Electronic) What I love most about this album is its musical horizons. Its not just a dubstep album, or just a trap album, or just a deep house album. Its a nice combination of todays most popular electronic genres that fit well together on the same album. There is also quite a bit of experimentation on here, and you gotta respect. Still waiting for these guys to come to Vancouver, hoping for an appearance at Contact 2015 or FVDED in the Park. https://youtube/watch?v=oYWda8ghBV8 Lots of other great releases this year by: In This Moment, SAVOY, Chromeo, Broken Bells, Epica, RL Grime, Foo Fighters, Death From Above 1979, Opiuo, Zomboy, Terravita, Deadmau5, USS, Snails, Slash, Linkin Park, Michael Jackson, The Pretty Reckless, Mushroomhead, Mogwai, Slash, La Roux, Iggy Azalea, Hozier, Godsmack, AC/DC, Against Me! lots of great music released in 2014... and with Marilyn Mansons The Pale Emperor leak, 2015 is off to a pretty sick start.
